Assessment, Treatment, Rehabilitation
Heidi and Amy are Graduate Sports Rehabilitators (governed by BASRaT – membership number REH000109).
They are experienced in treating a wide range of issues from joint pain, back pain or soft tissue problems, to sporting injuries.
Your first appointment will usually last around 60 minutes, consisting of a subjective assessment (thorough medical and injury history) followed by an objective assessment (examination of the injury). The objective assessment will more than likely include observing the injury as well as the joints above and below the area of pain, your posture and movement patterns. Joint specific testing can then be performed to highlight particular structures.
Assessment is a critical part of treating an injury. The assessment allows your therapist to determine the most likely cause of your complaint and how to treat it for the best results. After the assessment, a treatment plan can be devised and will usually begin the same day.
Treatment methods which may be used during Injury Rehabilitation appointments:
- Sports massage
- Stretching exercises
- Strengthening exercises
- Proprioception / balance training
- Core stability exercises
- Strapping / taping
- Postural re-education
- Medical Acupuncture and Electromedical acupuncture
In most cases, exercises may be prescribed to help with the treatment – usually to improve mobility or strength. It makes a massive difference if these can be done at home, on a regular basis and in most cases, this means the pain or injury recovers a lot quicker.
